Tonya Sue Brockway was born February 12, 1965, in Marshfield, Missouri to James Leora and Bettie Lou (Matlock) Caudle. She grew up in the Johnson County area, graduating from the Kansas School for the Deaf in 1983.
On May 25, 2011, Tonya married Charles Neal Brockway in Olathe. A devoted homemaker, Tonya found joy in sewing and cross-stitching, but her greatest happiness came from her family. She especially cherished her role as “Grandma,” treasuring every moment spent with her grandchildren. Whether it was rocking them to sleep, cheering on their milestones, or simply being their biggest supporter, Tonya’s love for them was unconditional and endless.
Her family will remember her silly sense of humor and her desire to help her loved ones. She poured her heart into those she loved, always putting family first. Her grandchildren will carry her love forward in their lives, a legacy of warmth and devotion that will never fade.
Tonya is survived by her husband, Charles of the home; daughter, Brittany Downey and grandson, Samuel of the home; son, Jason Shaffer (Victoria) and granddaughter, Ophellia of Osawatomie; grandson, Calvin Shaffer; honorary daughter, Haley Kyser and grandson, Keith Woodard of St. Mary’s, KS; sister, Tammy Schoonover (Pattie) of Syracuse, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Steven Brockway and Mary of Olathe; sister-in-law, Holly Reed and Johnny of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, Ricky Dial of the home; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara, and brothers, Eugene and Bill.
Tonya’s love and laughter will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
~Special thanks to her ICU nurse, Hai, and her surgeon, Dr. Lowry, who showed such love and concern for her and the family throughout her time at the hospital. Thanks also to Kenzie, Tonya’s home healthcare nurse, who was a monumental support for Tonya and her family.~
