Susan Elaine Key

Susan Elaine Key, age 72 of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at home. Funeral services will be 10AM, Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Wellsville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Wednesday evening at Wilson’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville UMC in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Susan Elaine Key was born September 18, 1951, in Thayer, Kansas the daughter of Albert and Hazel M. (Murray) Kamm. She grew up in Thayer and graduated from Thayer High School in 1969. She attended Independence Community College for general studies and eventually moved to Gardner. On February 14, 1976, she married Stanley L. Stump at their home in Gardner. They were married 23 years before his passing in 1999.

Susan began working for Sprint as a contract engineer in 1985. She enjoyed 23 years of employment with the company before retiring in 2003.

 On October 20, 2001, she married Ernest Walter Key. They spent the last 23 years of marriage together, travelling, gardening and spending precious time with their family.  Walter survives at the home in Wellsville.

Susan was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church and loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the most important people in her life. She was so very proud of each of them, and you could always find her in the stands cheering for them in every season of athletics they were involved in.

Susan is survived by her husband, Walter of the home; son, Douglas Scot Stump (Cay Ohlemeier) of Neosho Rapids, KS; daughter Staci Renea Newhouse (John) of Wellsville, KS; grandchildren: Hannah, Michael, Emily, Allyson and Matt; great-grandson, Levi; sister, JoVannah Boecker (Jack) of Olathe, KS and two nieces, Cynthia and Stephanie. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Stanley.
