Sammy Lee Cross, age 86 of Wellsville passed away July 3, 2024 at his home. Family will hold private graveside services at Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas.
Sammy Lee Cross was born May 4, 1938, in Wister, Oklahoma, the son of James Finley and Esther Mae (Baldwin) Cross. He grew up in Argentine, Kansas and graduated from Argentine High School in 1957.
On October 21, 1960, he married Arlene Ellen Zwaschka. They were married 63 years before his passing and had lived in Wellsville for 50 years.
Sammy was a railroader for the Union Pacific Railroad for 45 years. In addition to being a conductor and brakeman, he served in the Kansas National Guard for 5 years and was a lover of cars.
Sammy is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; son Christoper Cross (Lisa) of Wellsville; son Dane Cross (Judy) of Rantoul; grandchildren: Chase Cross (fiancé Marrisa Eastwood) of Ottawa; Joshua Cross (Sarah) of Ottawa; Jessica Cross of Wellsville; Lucas Cross of Wellsville; and 2 beautiful great-granddaughters, Ryla Jo and Bradleigh Cross. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Aileen (Cross) Corniulis and Edwadine “Edy” (Cross) Wyninger and brothers, James Cross and Farrell Cross.
