Robert Joseph Butler, Sr.

Robert Joseph Butler, Sr., age 85 of Osawatomie, KS passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home in Osawatomie. Graveside services will be 2PM, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Visiation will be 1-2PM, Wednesday, prior to graveside at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Butler Memorial Fund in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Robert Joseph Butler, Sr., was born May 19, 1934 in Blunt County, Tennessee, the son of Charles and Nora (Miller) Butler. He grew up in Maryville, TN and at the age of 16, he moved to KCK where he lived for awhile. He later moved to Shawnee, KS where he lived for the majority of his life. On August 1, 1953 he married Nancy Poe in Rosedale, Kansas. They were married 66 years before his passing. She survives in Osawatomie. Robert worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass in the Fairfax District of KCMO for 39 years before retiring in 1995. After retirment, he worked with his son, Jim and grandson Joshua doing construction and was very skilled and talented in many areas including refurbishing old furniture. He loved square dancing, old cars, traveling and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Robert is survived by his wife of the home; son Robert J. Butler, Jr.of Osawatomie, KS; son James C. Butler, Sr. (Cindy) of Osawatomie, KS; daughter, Kimberly J. Gratton (Phillip) of Prescott, KS; son Karl E. Butler of Mound City, KS; son Curtis Ty Butler (Bobbi) of Fontana, KS; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Homer, Shorty, Jr., and Frank; sisters, Frances, Jessie, Ruby, Mildred and Norena; and one grandson, Sgt. Jacob Lee Butler (2003).
