Robert Adams Obituary

Robert Craig Adams, 74, Olathe, departed his loved ones here on earth Thursday, December 17, 2020, quickly reuniting with his parents and all his old buddies in heaven. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the WHS Athletic Department and may be sent in care of Wilson's Funeral Home, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Craig was born on July 18th, 1946 in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Bob and Florence Adams. He spent his youth in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1964, before moving on to Pittsburg State University where he earned his teacher's certification. Throughout these years, Craig began a love and life alongside his middle school sweetheart, Madlyn Ostrander. They were joined in marriage on June 2nd, 1968 and days later set down stakes in Wellsville to begin their formal life together and raise their family. Craig was a teacher and coach at Wellsville High School for 20 years, just down the hall from his coworker, Madlyn. After retirement from the classroom and court, Craig spent the final years of his career in the breakroom at AFG in Spring Hill.
An enemy to none and a friend to all, Craig had the gift of gab and loved to spot or seek out his next acquaintance and friendship he could form. Whether that be the new neighbor, a friend of a friend, or the next person he saw on the sidewalk, he saw everyone as the next person he wanted to meet. He could often be spotted on the bench outside a store, chatting with the other husbands, with no concerns for how long his wife might need to browse. Craig enjoyed coaching, watching, and playing all sports, and his senior league softball feats he described only grew more incredible with each passing season. He loved to catch up with his grandkids on the latest activity in the cornfields and ballfields, and always looked forward to the next school event on the calendar. His passion for old cars, collecting ball cards and other memorabilia created many great memories for reflection and conversation with others. Two decades with his students in the woodshop or out on the court led to a remarkable man of patience, humor, warmth, and an easygoing outlook that brought joy to his family and all he met.
Craig was a cancer survivor with a body so strong and capable of battling any challenge those years brought him. It was only these last few years that he was presented with dementia that not even his strong body could overcome. He left us all much too soon and will be missed by many, but we can all find comfort knowing that Craig is shaking hands and catching up with old friends and new in Heaven.
Family was very important to Craig who loved him with all their hearts. He is survived by his wife Madlyn; his children Travis, Kansas City; Josh(Heather), Wellsville; Ashli(Eric), Eudora; his brother Barry(Sue), Chanute; and his four grandchildren: Maverick Adams, Maci, Maddox, and Lincoln Votaw. He was proceeded in death by his mother, father, and far too many good friends and family to count.
