Richard Martinez, age 76 of Wellsville, KS passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022. Funeral services will be 1PM, Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville with visitation at 11AM. Interment in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Richard Martinez was born May 23, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Ben and Jenny (Valdivia) Martinez. He was married to Marita Martinez for 42 years before her passing April 11, 2021. Richard served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a press operator at Deluxe Checks for 31 years and was well known for the Mexican food he cooked at Hurricane Sherry’s with his wife. He enjoyed cooking food for the community, and taking burritos to the ladies at the bank, and doctors office in town.
Richard is survived by his brothers: Gilbert Martinez, Butch Martinez, and Michael Martinez; his son Brandon Martinez and his wife Crissy of Wellsville, KS; his son Ben Martinez and his wife Lynn of Roeland Park, KS; his daughter Rachael Schmidt and her husband John of Parkville, MO; his daughter, Karista Martinez of Wellsville, KS; his stepson Clinton Jones and his wife Anna of Overland Park, KS; his grandchildren, Jordyn, Derek, Micah, and Zachary. Great grandchildren, Jeffy and Bo, a loving dog named Annabelle, and many many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Joe and Bobby Martinez.
