Rex Patton Obituary

Rex Lynn Patton, age 86 of Wellsville, KS passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at his home. A celebration of his life will be held 4:30-7PM, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Milestone Events in Wellsville where friends and family may give a final toast to Rex. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville USD 289 Athletic Fund and the Kid Matters Wrestling program in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Rex Lynn Patton was born March 31, 1936 in rural Wellsville, KS the son of James Elvis and Elizabeth Neola (Shannon) Patton. He grew up in Wellsville and attended Wellsville Schools. On March 11, 1954, Rex joined the United States Army at the age of 17. He spent 3 years serving his country as a paratrooper and spent time in Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Germany. He was honorably discharged with a National Defense Service Medal, parachutist badge and was recognized as a rifle sharpshooter.

On June 14, 1957 he married Alice Elaine Keim. They shared 66 years together and raised four sons. Alice survives at the home.

Rex was a heavy equipment operator most of his life. He worked for multiple construction companies and worked for the City of Wellsville for 14 years. He was a member of Union Operators 101.

One might say Rex’s hobby in life was working. He loved doing projects of any kind, and later in life enjoyed watching others working as he made his regular “patrols” of the area. He loved his town but his true joy in life was his family. He appreciated watching his grandchildren participate and excel in their sports and always welcomed their frequent visits. He created an outside area by his garage which became a regular meeting place for his growing family and friends, and many stories and memories were shared in this special location.

Rex is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Steve Patton (Chris), Brian Patton (Barbara), Dale Patton (Kari) and Scott Patton (Jean), all of Wellsville; 13 grandchildren: Kierston, Allison, Austin, Kathy, Kyle, Ryan, Chelsie, Kayla, Kristin, Karly, Danielle, Molly and Erica; 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, siblings Yvonne, Jerome, JoAnn, Jean, Keith, Lucky, two infant sister and most recently, his grandson, Aaron Patton.
