Patricia Maurene Mason, age 85 of Richmond, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024 at her home. Funeral services will be 10AM, Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Open Table Community Church in Wellsville. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Wilson’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Table Youth Ministries in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Patricia Maurene Mason was born October 7, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of Maurice Glen Brown, Sr. and Evelyn Mae (Martin) Brown. They were direct descendants of Moses and Annie Grinter, registered members of the Lenape of the Delaware Indian Tribe and the first settlers in Kansas. She grew up in Spring Hill and graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1956. Pat married Willilam Edward Mason in 1958 and moved to Indiana where they started their family. They raised their children in Indiana until 1979 when they divorced. Pat moved to Wellsville in that same year. She worked as a nurse’s aide in obstetrics and later attended JCCC to obtain her accreditation to become a unit secretary. She had been at Olathe Medical Center for 30 years, retiring around 2000.
Pat taught Sunday School and Boy Scouts in Indiana. She made several trips to outreach missions including Mardi Gras and other inner-city outreaches with Christ In Action and also made two trips to Malawi, Africa for mission outreaches and to children’s orphanages. She loved camping and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her children: son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Mindy Mason of Wellsville; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Chris Mason of Baldwin City; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Sean Shrimpton of Ottawa; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Stephanie Mason of Richmond; brother, Maurice Brown, Jr. of Spring Hill; sister, Sandy Sylva of Wellsville; sister, Doris Reeves of Wellsville; sister, Diana Waters of Wellsville; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Earl Brown, grandson, Josiah Christopher Mason (2021) and granddaughter, Lena Mae Shelton (2022).
