Myron Ray Coons, age 67, of Wellsville passed away Monday, February 21, 2022, at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11AM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 10AM, one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in LaCygne, Kansas following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Myron Coons Memorial Fund in care of Wilson’s Funeral Home, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Myron Ray Coons was born June 12, 1954, in Olathe, Kansas the son of Robert Lee and Frances Berniece (Meyers) Coons. He grew up in Wellsville and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1972. After high school, Myron went to work for Bell and Howell as a Senior Field Service Technician. He worked there for 47 years, retiring in 2020.
Myron loved the Chiefs and the Royals. He loved auto racing and was active in dirt track racing as the crew chief for his brother-in-law, Terry Bivins since he was 16 years old. You could always find him with his son and daughter at Lakeside Speedway on Friday nights during the racing season. Myron enjoyed boating and camping with his kids and family and recently enjoyed spending some time woodworking. He loved travelling with his brother and road trip partner, Curt. He also loved the outdoors and working on the lawn. Myron truly loved any activity as long as he was with his family and friends. He would do anything for anyone.
Myron is survived by his daughter, Kim Coons of Paola; son, Jason Coons of Paola; step-son, David McPherson (Kim) of Lawrence; step-son, Dustin Haas (Aleshka) of Wellsville; sister, Claudia Bivins (Terry) of Lebo, KS; brother, Bob “Judge” Coons (Pam) of LaCygne, KS; sister, Linda Fritzshall (Randy) Overland Park, KS; brother, Clyde Coons (Debbie) of Wellsville; brother, Kevin Coons (Teri) of Wellsville; brother, Curt Coons (Cheryl) of Overland Park; 9 grandchildren: Keagan Jones, Ashlee Worthy, Cailyn Carter, Ashton Coons, Kendall Jones, Alexa King, Jordyn Coons, Jaydyn Coons and Leigha Coons; 2 great-grandchildren, Alyx and Lily; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Nathan Coons (2006).
