Martin Eugene Mower, Sr.

Martin Eugene Mower, Sr., age 93 of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Visitation for family and friends will be 2-5PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Family graveside will be Thursday at the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Society in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Martin Eugene Mower, Sr., was born September 19, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of George and Nellie (Cloverdyke) Mower. He grew up in Spring Hill, Kansas where he attended primary school at Ocheltree Elementary and graduated from Spring Hill High in 1945. After high school, Martin joined the United States Navy and honorably served his country. On November 4, 1950, he married Betty Jo Tombs. They were married 68 years before her passing in 2018.
Martin worked several years as a steel lathe operator and also in a flour mill. He farmed with his wife for many years and retired from Delco Battery after 30 years of employment.
Martin is survived by his son, Martin Eugene Mower, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Gardner; son, James Dale Mower of Wellsville; daughter, Teresa Lynn Mower of Wellsville; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, George, a sister, Ethelyn and an infant grandson, Sean McHugh (1990).
