Marita Sue (Hendricks) Martinez

Marita Sue Martinez, age 65 of Wellsville, Kansas passed away April 11, 2021 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1PM, Monday, April 19th at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be from 11-1PM, prior to services, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Olathe, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Marita Sue Martinez was born December 29, 1955 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Louie Wayne and Mary Henrietta (Hudson) Hendricks. Marita grew up in the Gardner area and graduated from Gardner Edgerton High School in 1973. She married Richard Martinez and they shared 42 years together before her passing. Marita worked for Deluxe Check Printers for over 20 years as a press operator. She also worked at American Eagle Distribution Center for 12 years.

Marita was always active. She enjoyed cooking, and was widely known in town for her amazing tacos, tamales and chips and sauce that were enjoyed by many on weekly occasions at Hurricane Sherry’s Bar. Marita enjoyed cleaning, working in her garden and decorating her home for the holidays. She enjoyed music and loved the Four Tops and the Stylistics.

Marita is survived by her husband, Richard of the home in Wellsville; daughter, Karista Martinez of Wellsville; son, Clint Jones and his wife Anna of Overland Park; son, Brandon Martinez and his wife Crissy of Wellsville; brother, Steve Hendricks and his wife Jeanette of Edgerton; sister, Mary Herbert and her husband Skip of Gardner; grandchildren: Jordyn, Micah, Derek, and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Jeffy and Bo; her beloved dog, Annabelle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Cheryl and Alice; 3 brothers, Gary, Buddy and David; and her nephew, Ryan Hendricks.
