Leland “Lee” Duane Milroy, age 88 of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at his home. Memorial services will be 10AM, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Tuesday evening, also at the funeral home. Interment of cremains will follow services in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville United Methodist Church and the Wellsville Kid Matters Wrestling Program
Leland Duane Milroy was born November 22, 1934, in Quinter, Kansas, the son of Walter Scott and Edith Aline (McElroy) Milroy. He grew up in western Kansas and Winchester, and graduated from Winchester High School in 1952. After high school he worked at a flour mill, a rock quarry and finally taking employment at Farmland Industries in Lawrence, Kansas. Lee worked there for 37 years before retiring in 1997. On April 27, 1958, he married Carol Ann Richardson in Winchester. They were married 65 years before his passing. Carol survives at the home.
Lee drove a milk truck for a number of years after retirement but loved volunteering to build wheel-chair ramps in the communities of eastern Kansas and many in Wellsville as well. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed camping, attending the children’s events and spending time with his family. He loved being involved with his grandchildren’s sports and was known as “grandpa” in the Kansas Kids Wrestling Program.
Lee was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Winchester for many years and was currently a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church.
Lee is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Janice Caruthers (Randy Bailey) of Wellsville; son, Larry Milroy (Susan Faler) of Emporia; grandson, Jeremy Milroy (Kyla) of Ottawa; grandson, Christopher Caruthers (Alli) of Wellsville; granddaughter, Kari Cheever (Lance) of El Dorado, KS; granddaughter, Susan Stueve (Dustain) of Ottawa; grandson Tory Courter of Lawrence, KS; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Adams (Ron) of Oskaloosa, KS; brother, Robert Milroy (Joan) of Prairie Village; sister-in-law, Joyce Milroy of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Bonnie Milroy of Winchester, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nellie Perry; brothers, Eugene and Gary Milroy; son, James “Jim” Milroy (2015); daughter-in-law, Gayle Milroy (2017).
