LaDema Higbie Obituary

LaDema J. Higbie, age 90 of Wellsville, KS passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be 10AM, Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Wellsville Baptist Church. Visitation will be 4-6PM, Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Interment will follow services in the Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Retirement Community or the Wellsville Baptist Church in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
LaDema June Higbie was born April 4, 1927 in Condon, Oregon, the daughter of Robert H. and Lora (Keim) Carr. She grew up in Ottawa and attended the Ottawa schools. On April 20, 1946 she married Junior Higbie in Topeka, Kansas. They were married 60 years before his passing in 2006. LaDema was a homemaker in her younger years and also sold Avon. In 1971, LaDema began working in the kitchen at the Wellsville Schools. She was there for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a lifetime member of the Wellsville Baptist Church and a proud and steadfast Christian. She was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, the Pleasant Valley Community, and a volunteer at the Wellsville Manor. She was a cancer survivor, a sweet and loving mom and grandma, a big Jayhawk and Royals fan and was adored by her friends and community. She was a family member at the Wellsville Retirement Community where she thoroughly enjoyed living for the last 2 and a half years.
LaDema is survived by her children; Diana DePriest and husband Gary of Topeka; son Gary Higbie of Lawrence; son Dale Higbie of Wellsville; brother, Duane Carr of Elkins, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Karyn Higbie (2012), 1 brother and 3 sisters.
