Karla Leann (Zickel) Smith

Karla Leann Smith, age 65 of Wellsville, KS passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at her home. Karla will be cremated and memorial services held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Karla Leann Smith was born June 24, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Norman and Farron Arlene (McBride) Zickel. She grew up in Eudora and attended school there. In 1980 she married David Michael Smith in Lawrence, Kansas. They were married 17 years and raised 3 children together. Karla was a homemaker most of her life.

Karla loved spending time with her 11 grandchildren, in addition to the many she considered her own. She was an avidly artistic and loved to craft. She loved camping and fishing and crime television shows.

Karla is survived by her children: son, Travis Smith of Wellsville; daughter Meagan and her husband Darrell Walker of Olathe; and her son Jimmy Smith and his wife Angie of Tonganoxie; grandchildren: Keyara, Michael and Karson Smith; Paija Walker; and Trevor, Tyler, Tate, Tidus, Tesslyn, Tayalynn and Tiaralynn Smith. Sister and brother in law, Phyllis and Mike Holtwick of Wellsville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jessie Zickel; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Darrel Earps of Texas; brother and sister-in-law, David and Jackie Zickel of Overland Park, KS; sister and brother-in-law Teresa and Russell Bloodsworth of Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Leslie and Don Brown of Wellsville, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and  her brother, Derald Zickel (1980).
