John Louis Palmer, age 87 of Wellsville, KS passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Graveside services will be 11:30AM, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM, Saturday at Wilson's Funeral Home, prior to graveside services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
John Louis Palmer was born December 17, 1931 in Merriam, Kansas the son of Perry Winfield and Frances Marie (Rice) Palmer. He grew up in Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School in 1949. While in high school, John was a member of the FFA all 4 years and was in involved in the 4H club in Antioch. On Sept 5, 1953 he married Betty Lou Rose, and to this union, 3 sons were born. They moved to Wellsville in 1969 and were married 33 years before her passing in 1985. On December 4, 1989, John married Marilyn A. Alexander and they shared 9 years of marriage before her passing in 1998.
John farmed and milked dairy cattle for 49 ½ years on his farm south of Wellsville. He was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church and served in the United States Army from 1956-1958.
John is survived by his son Richard Palmer (Janet Campbell) of Wellsville; son, Dennis Palmer (Cheryl) of Wellsville; brother, Carl Palmer of Olathe; 4 grandchildren; Tara and David Miller of Wellsville; Megan and Daniel Miller of Wellsville; Danny and Anna Palmer of Wellsville and Derek and Jocelyn Palmer of Wellsville; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives, son Dale Palmer (Nov. 16, 2007) and a brother Perry Palmer.
