Jo Ann Massengale

Jo Ann Massengale, age 78 of Wellsville, KS passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Cremation. Graveside services will be 10AM, Wedensday, November 23, 2016 at the Walnut Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7PM, Tuesday evening at Wilsons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Family Worship Center or the Wellsville Library in care of Wilsons, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Jo Ann Massengale was born July 17, 1938 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Gene E. and Hilda Anna Wilhelmina (Knoche) Evans. She grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High in 1956. On June 12, 1964 she married Randy Massengale at the Wellsville Methodist Church. He preceded her in death in 2014. She attended the University of Kansas and graduated with her Bachelors in Education, but had started teaching at the age 19 in an old one-room country schoolhouse in Warden, Kansas. After graduation she taught elementary school in Gardner, Kansas for 38 years. She had been in Wellsville since 1963. After retirement, Jo Ann worked with the local schools and library, loved woodcrafts that she sold with her husband and was a beloved member of the Red Hat Ladys.
Jo Ann is survived by her daughter, Penny Lea Kuntzsch of Ottawa; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Doug Klamm of Wellsville; brother, Phil Evans of Baldwin City, KS; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents, husband and a brother, Richey Evans.
