Haylei Jo was born July 1, 2000 in Olathe, Kansas the daughter of Joseph Wesley and Crysti Lynne (Bettge) Bell. She was a Senior at Gardner Edgerton High School and had verbally committed to playing volleyball for Missouri Valley College on a full athletic scholarship. She was very proud of being a Viking. Haylei had lived in the Gardner area all her life. She had played volleyball and was on the track team for GEHS and was excited to possibly be a part of the basketball program her senior year, as she had played in her younger years. She played volleyball for Zoom since the age of 8 and had participated in club track for many years. She was an accomplished athlete who treasured her teammates and coaches.
Haylei had a huge heart for animals, pigs being her favorite. She took in and raised many strays, nursed baby lambs and loved her horses. When she was younger, Haylei yearned to be a professional barrel racer. That later turned into being a professional athlete. She loved the ocean, loved to fish, loved the outdoors and loved her friends. She enjoyed water color painting, ceramics, laughing and dancing. More than anything in this world, she loved her family. She was incredibly proud of being a big sister. Haylei was a beautiful, free spirit whose love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her and were lucky enough to be touched by her presence in their lives. Haylei lived by two mottoes: "Keep your head up and your heart BIG" and "I CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens ME" Philippians 4:13.
