Gailya Rose Collins, age 90 of Lenexa passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023. A memorial visitation will be held 10-12PM, Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. There will be a private internment in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Home Healthcare, 1300 N 78th St, #100, KC,KS 66112.
Gailya Rose Collins was born August 20, 1932 on her family farm in Wellsville, Kansas. She attended school at Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Wellsville in 1950. She also attended the University of Kansas following her graduation from high school. On September 5, 1951, Gailya married Gerald Eugene Collins in Wellsville. He preceded her death June 23, 2005. They were married 53 years before his passing.
Gailya worked as a registrar for many years at Northeast High School, Northeast Jr. High and James Elementary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was well-known by those that knew her for keeping meticulous records of everything.
Gailya is survived by her daughter Debra Rene Serrone and her husband Lou; son, Russ Farrell Collins and his wife, Elizabeth; brother, Raymond Farrell; sister, Phyllis Farrell; sister-in-law, Dixie Farrell; grandchildren: Mandi and Brandon Hunter, Katie and Bryan Chesen, Ian Collins and Tyler Collins; and great-grandchildren Will and Kate Hunter and Graham and Holly Chesen; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Reeta Farrell, brother, Gary Farrell and sister, Marjorie Lintner.
