Gail Ivan Neis

Gail Ivan Neis, age 84 of Wellsville, KS passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Olathe Medical Center with family by his side. Funeral services will be 10AM, Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Wilsons Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Wednesday evening, also at Wilson's. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ in Gardner or the Gardner Masonic Lodge #65 in care of Wilsons, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Gail Ivan Neis was born November 6, 1932 in rural Wellsville, KS the son of Oliver and Lucille (Hammar) Neis. He attended grade school at Black Jack and Rock Creek schools and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1950. He attended the University of Kansas for one year and worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant. On November 22, 1952 he married Virginia "Ginny" Finney in Shelby, Missouri. They were married 64 years before his passing. She survives at the home. Gail was a farmer and stockman all of his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Gardner and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Kansas for 67 years. He was a past member and officer of Lawrence Cooperative, the Rock Creek and USD 289 school boards, county zoning board, and Farmers Home Administration boards. Gail used to laugh and comment that he never moved more than 8 miles from where he was born. He loved traveling, having coffee, playing dominoes and meals at the local diner with friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and Super Papa.
Gail is survived by his wife of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Rick O'Neil, son and daughter-in-law, Steven Gale and Debbie Neis, son, Brad Neis and son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Laurel Neis, all of Wellsville; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
