Faith Whitley, age 84 of Leawood, KS passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Wellsville Health and Rehab in Wellsville, KS. Graveside services will be 2PM, Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Wellsville Cemetery, with family gathering at Wilson’s Funeral Home one hour prior at 1PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Historical Society in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Faith Whitley was born July 24, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Charles Wagner and Ruth (Nelson) Campbell. She grew up in San Bernadino, CA and graduated from Sr. Bernadine’s High School in 1956. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Pasadena City College in 1959 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Whittier College in 1962. On May 20, 1967, Faith married Douglas Miles Whitley and they shared 54 years of marriage before her passing. He survives at the home in Leawood.
Faith taught high school English and History in the Los Angeles public schools before moving to Kansas and transitioning to the role of homemaker and full-time caregiver to her 3 children.
Faith enjoyed the Arts and participating in various organizations. In 1981 she served as president to the Sketch Box Committee Kansas City Art Institute. In 1982, she was the president of the Johnson County Medical Auxiliary, and from 1987-1989, she served as the president of the Scandinavian Club Auxiliary.
Faith was instrumental in bringing the Renaissance Festival to the greater Kansas City area and participated in the inaugural activities for the festival.
Faith is survived by her husband of the home; daughter Anne Whitley; son, Miles Whitley (Julie); daughter Jane Whitley Caswell and her fiancé Matthew Allin, (step-son to Carol Fleming of Wellsville); grandchildren, Grace Caswell, George Caswell and Haley Thompson; and a sister, Constance Fustin.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
