Evan Joel Phillips

Evan Joel Phillips, age 87 of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Wellsville Retirement Community with family by his side. A family graveside service will be held 10AM, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville United Methodist Church in care of Wilson's Funeral Home, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092. (Friends may sign the register book and make memorial contributions at their convenience Tuesday, 9th-Friday, 12th at the funeral home from 8AM-3PM.)
Evan Joel Phillips was born June 20, 1933, in Peoria, Kansas the son of Floyd H. and Mary E. (Yerkes) Phillips. He grew up in the Wellsville area and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1951. On November 30, 1952, he married Loeta R. Childs. From this union, 3 daughters were born: Joelene, Jeri and Jan. After Loeta's passing, Evan married Shirley Elizabeth (Clayton) Moyer on June 22, 1962, welcoming her 3 sons, Mike, Greg and Rick into his family. They were married 58 years before his passing and Shirley survives in Wellsville.
Evan joined the United States Army in 1953 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and was a current and active member in the Wellsville American Legion, Post 194.
Evan retired from Western Electric Company in 1987 after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, golfing and woodworking. He also enjoyed Wintering in Arizona with numerous friends and loved spending time with his many grandchildren and their families.
Evan is survived by his wife, Shirley of Wellsville; daughter, Joelene (Denny) Dwyer; son, Mike (Brenda) Phillips; daughter, Jeri (Virgil) Green; son, Greg (Candy) Phillips; daughter, Jan (Leland) Green and son, Rick Phillips; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Warren D. and W. Leon Phillips.
