Dutch McSpadden Obituary

Dutch Henry McSpadden age 38 of Gardner, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 21st, 2025 at home in his sleep from a pulmonary embolism. Services will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea (22779 Metcalf Rd Bucyrus, KS  66013) on Saturday, October 18th, with visitation at 10:00AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM.

Dutch was born December 25th,1986 the son of Larry LeWayne and Janet Marie (Eckerberg) McSpadden. He grew up in Spring Hill, the oldest of three children. He spent his childhood spending summers at the Lake of the Ozarks, hunting and shooting guns, playing sports, and having friends over to ride four-wheelers and play video games in the basement. He was creative and ornery, a dangerous combination for a semi-feral country kid who loved getting a laugh out of people. Dutch inherited his dad's love and knowledge of mechanics and could drive and work on just about everything from cars and motorcycles to boats and even trains. He spent more time with his head under a hood than under a sports helmet, but he did well at whatever he put his mind to.

Dutch graduated from KSU with a bachelor's degree in science. Following college, he first worked for Norfolk Southern railroad and then for Union Pacific railroad as a conductor until his passing.

Dutch might have had a short arm, but he had a big heart and loved very hard. Whether you were family, friends or his dog, once you were in Dutch's inner circle, he would do anything for you. That includes throwing a punch or putting someone in the infamous fish hook he was known for.

Aside from cars, Dutch loved hunting, collecting guns and gun parts, traveling, and the ocean. He was scuba diving certified and looked forward to diving various places he went. He also loved a good meme and spent a lot of time finding oddities on Facebook Marketplace, which he frequently shared with his friends and family. Shaking your head and cussing Dutch is standard for the memories and stories he is involved in.

Dutch is preceded in death by his father Larry McSpadden, mother Janet McSpadden, grand mother, Betty McSpadden and his beloved dog, Abby. He is survived by his siblings, Hannah (Drew) Dragoo and Dexter McSpadden, and many friends and family. He will be truly missed by all knew him, because there will never be another Dutch McSpadden.
