Dorothy Lucille Tomlinson, age 93 of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at her home with family by her side. Funeral services will be 11AM, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vitas Hospice or Wellsville United Methodist Church in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Dorothy Lucille Tomlinson was born January 26, 1923 in Lehigh, Kansas the daughter of George Karl and Rachel (Lipps) Winter. She grew up in Lehigh and attended school until the 8th grade. She moved with her family to Burns, Kansas, and later to Hartford. Dorothy took care of and helped raise her brothers and sisters and then during the war, went to work at Cessna in Wichita. She moved later to Kansas City to work for Bell Telephone Company where she met her future husband in October of 1946. She married JW Tomlinson on February 14, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were married 69 years before her passing. He survives at the home. They moved to Wellsville in June of 1959 where she took care of children, helping to raise and loving them for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Wellsville American Legion Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy loved and was very skilled at quilting, crocheting, knitting and crafting, in general. She was loved dearly by her family and all those that knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of the home; son, James and his wife Margaret Tomlinson of Rogers, Arkansas; daughter Sharon Sappenfield and her husband Robert Malkames of Shawnee, Kansas; daughter, Arlene Tomlinson of Wellsville, Kansas; brother, Donnie and his wife Bert Winter of Augusta, Kansas; sister, Barbara Conyers of Wichita; brother Lavern Winter of Virgil, Kansas; sister, Delores Long of Arizona; 6 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and one son-in-law, George Sappenfield (2002).
