Donald Sanford Powell

Donald Sanford Powell, age 72 of Wellsville passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Cremation. Graveside services will be 12PM, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30AM, Saturday morning, prior to graveside at Wilson's Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald Powell Memorial Fund in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Donald Sanford Powell was born April 3, 1945 in Hamilton, Ohio the son of Dewey Sanford and Daisy May (Gray) Powell. He attended schools in Lidenwall and Hamilton, Ohio and after high school he began a lifelong career of being a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union where he retired after many years of driving. In 1978, he married Jonnie Lee Sherman in Brighton, Colorado. They were married almost 40 years before his passing. Donnie loved putting models together of any and all kinds. He was an avid reader and known for his joke telling.
Donnie is survived by his wife of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Jess Newman of Wellsville; sons, Louis, Bradley, Brent and Donald Powell of Shenendoah, Iowa; sister Brenda Profitt of Saline, TX; brother Mike Allen of Hamilton, OH; brother Wayne Allen of Hamilton, OH; sister Judy Shilt of Fairfield, OH; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert Powell (2007) and Travis Powell (2010), sister, Barbara Bowman and brother James Powell.
