David Beery Obituary

David Bryan Beery, age 60, passed away on August 29, 2023, in Wellsville, Kansas.

David, or "DB" as he is better known, was born in Kansas City, KS, on July 20, 1963, to Linda Dee and John Orville Beery, Jr.  He started school at Turner Grade School in Turner, KS, attended Olathe schools, and finished his education at Wellsville High School.  DB married Rochelle Redding in the mid-1980s and they later divorced.  He had two daughters, Megan and Katie, with Melony Clark.  He later married Kim Beets and they had three daughters, Skylor, Ashleigh and Bonni, before divorcing.  He later married Sheri Hagman, who preceded him in death.

DB developed a love for fishing from his mother and enjoyed this hobby frequently with his brother, JB, and many friends.  He loved motorcycles and muscle cars, wrote poetry, had a fondness for unique rocks and relics , loved spending time outdoors in nature and building campfires.  He may also have had a special place in his heart for Tootsie Rolls and Skittles.  For his family and friends, he may be best remembered for his comic relief and amazing sense of humor.  He worked in several fields of work, including the railroad industry, before his worsening health took over.

DB struggled with mental illness and substance use for many years, challenges that many experience but few like to talk about.  They were a plague that ultimately led to a broken and diseased physical body.  After a few months of dialysis over the summer of 2023, DB chose to stop dialysis and live his days as they came with friends and family around him.

DB was also preceded in death by his father, John Orville Beery, Jr; a niece, Crystal Ann Hurley; a nephew, James Russell Bradley, 3 grandchildren and both his maternal and paternal grandparents, Lora and Murray Hammer and Phoebe and John Beery, Sr.

DB is survived by his mother, Linda Zimmernan and stepfather, Ron, of Garnett, KS; his stepmother, Loya Beery of DeSoto, KS; his daughters, Megan Beery of Hiawatha, KS; Katie Beery of Kansas City, KS; Skylor Yeager and husband, Chris, of Baldwin City, KS;  Ashleigh Minks and husband, Danny, of Lawrence, KS; and Bonni Beery of Lawrence, KS.  He leaves behind 5 siblings: Rebecca Hurley of DeSoto, KS; Pamela Beery of Olathe, KS; John W. Beery of Garnett, KS; Rhonda Patterson and husband, Jay, of DeSoto, KS and Wendy Belcher and husband Chris, of Greeley, KS.  He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  DB was cared for in the home of his love, Tammy Clabaugh of Wellsville, KS, with the help of friends and family.

The life of the infamous DB will be celebrated at the DeSoto VFW Post 6654 on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 3-7pm.
