Obituary

Charles Waverly Rhoades, age 87, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Rosewood Health and Rehab in Independence, MO. Graveside services will be 1PM, Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville American Legion Post 194 in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Charles Waverly Rhoades was born June 10, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John and Della (Murphy) Rhoades. He grew up in Wellsville and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1953. On May 27, 1953, Charles joined the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1955 after serving during the Korean conflict and later married Sally Harrison. To this union, four sons were born. Later in his life, Charles married Bonnie Colvin of Wellsville. Together they moved to Olathe where he was closer to work. Charles worked for Delco Battery for over 30 years and after his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in Branson, Missouri. It was his favorite place to go and loved seeing the shows.

Charles is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Lawrence; son, Kent Rhoades of Independence, MO; son, Marty Rhoades (Debbie) of Olathe; son, Craig Rhoades (Linda) of Olathe; sister, Mary Ann Yokum of Ottawa; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles “Dusty” Rhoades, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kathie Rhoades; sister, Martha Martin and a brother, Velorus Rhoades.
