Charles "Charlie" Wayne O'Connor

Charles “Charlie” Wayne O’Connor, age 56 of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Monday, May 12, 2025 at his home. Graveside services will be 11AM, Thursday, May 22 at the Wellsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chase O’Connor in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Charles Wayne O’Connor was born June 26, 1968 in Gardner, Kansas, the son of Charles Wheeler and Darlene Gail (Dunham) O’Connor. He grew up in Wellsville and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1986. After graduating, Charlie worked in the construction industry. For the past 15 years, he had been employed as a lease operator in the oilfield services for Kansas Resource Exploration and Development. On September 25, 1999, he married Eugenia “Gena” Green. She preceded him in death in 2015.

Charlie was an outdoorsman in every sense, with a love for fishing, hunting and golfing. He loved mushroom and deer shed hunting and enjoyed sharing these experiences with his friends and family. Charlie’s favorite holiday was the 4th of July and he would host a family celebration every year. He was his most happiest making others laugh and smile. His own smile could light up a room and he gave the best and biggest hugs.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. His four children were his entire world and his grandson, Braylen was his “best buddy”. You could always find them together getting into mischief. He was also very proud of his first granddaughter, Azalea, who is almost 3 months old, and would share pictures of her proudly.

Charlie is survived by his children: daughter, Chelsea Re’nee O’Connor and granddaughter Azalea Shalene Shaughnessy of Huntington Beach, CA; daughter Megan Shalene O’Connor and grandson Braylen Ray Tate of Wellsville; son, Chase Wayne O’Connor of Wellsville; daughter, Hannah Danielle O’Connor of Wellsville; parents, Charles “Chuck” and Darlene “Gail” O’Connor of Wellsville; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Angela O’Connor of Overland Park, KS; sister and brother-in-law, Jaime and Michael Schram of Paola, KS; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, wife, Gena and uncle, Mike O’Connor.
