Carolyn May Layton died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. She was 85 years old. Carolyn was born in Englewood, Colorado to Clyde Curtis and Elizabeth Hope (Converse) Nichols on September 16, 1931 and was the second of five children.
Carolyn accepted the Lord as her Savior in April 1944. At that time she claimed the promise found in II Timothy 1:7. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind".
Carolyn grew up in Wellsville, Kansas and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. She attended Colorado Women's College (CWC) in Denver, Colorado for 1 year.
In 1950 Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Layton, in Wellsville and became a happy contented ‘housewife', raising seven children. Glenn and Carolyn were married 58 years before Glenn's death in July 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Layton; daughter, Annette Bowman; two sisters Julia Nichols and Kay
Russell; her brothers Sherman Nichols and Riley Nichols; Brother in law Donald Dumler, Sister in law Alvera Nichols, Grandson Damon Corwine and Great Grandson Stetson McFarland.
She is survived by sons Roger Kent Layton, Forest Park, Illinois; Steven Daryl and Donna Layton, Kurtis Russell and Jeaneen Layton of Wellsville, KS; daughters Marcia and Steven Corwine of Windsor, CO; Laura and Don McFarland of Trenton, GA; Barbara and Brian Kearney of Wellsville, KS; brothers in law Don and Leanor Layton, Lubbock, TX; Robert Layton, Wichita, KS; Ben Nitcher, Wellsville, KS; Sisters in law, Beverly Dumler, Merriam, KS; Pat Nichols of Pueblo, CO. 16 grandchildren; Doug, Rebecca, Daniel, Nathan, Matthew, Andrew, Dustin, Meagan, Dane, Derek, Kasey, Nicolas, Erica, Shamus, Hope, and Ayden Jack; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family will welcome friends from 12:30-2:00 pm, Saturday, December 17th with the Service beginning at 2:00 at Wilson's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Wellsville Cemetery.
