Billy Gene Moss, age 73, of Wellsville, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Advent Health of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held in accordance with all COVID19 restrictions and guidelines, 7PM, Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services at 6PM. Military interment will follow services 10AM, Monday, August 24, 2020 at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Disabled Veterans Association in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Billy G. Moss was born October 18, 1946 in Belton, Texas, the son of Jack and Gertrude (Bearden) Moss. On Labor Day weekend of 1973, Billy met Anita Gorham on a blind date and on November 29, 1975 they were married. They shared almost 45 years together before his passing and she survives at the home.
Bill joined the United States Marine Corps on February 1, 1966. He proudly served his country in Vietnam as part of the 2/9 Unit, also known as "The Walking Dead" for being heavily fired upon and having a high casualty rate. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1968. He had a great affinity for fishing and car shows and loved being with his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Anita of the home; his son, William J. Moss and his wife Shelly of Burlington, KS; daughter, Sherry Ellis and her husband Charlie of Wellsville, KS; the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren: grandson, J.T. Ellis and his girlfriend, Rachel Bovitz of Wellsville, KS; granddaughter, Kana Ellis of Manhattan, KS; grandson, Tucker Ellis of Wellsville, KS; grandson, Isaiah Moss of Burlington, KS; adopted grandchildren, Chucky Hedrick of Lincoln, NE and Rylee Matthies of LeRoy, KS; and the many other kids that have come and gone through his front door. He is also survived by a very special niece whom he shared a birthday with, Holly Barrera of Austin, TX; nephews, Justin Moss of Killeen, TX and Andy Moss of Florence, TX; his brother Kenny Moss and his wife Arlene of Florence, TX; his sister Patritia Newlin and her husband Dan of Texas; and many other extended family members and friends.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
